As we observe Women’s Month, the Grade 6s have been discussing gender inequality in their Life Orientation lessons; the Grade 5s have been researching the history of the Women’s Day march in 1956. They also presented an oral on an Iconic South African Woman.
On Friday 8 August, the Grade 4-6 pupils gathered in their Cool2Care groups, and they had the opportunity to discuss gender inequality and offer their opinions. They looked at different quotes, images and video clips to assist them in their discussion. Some pupils reflected that it was thought-provoking to discuss stereotyping, and the tone with which we speak to each other, whether it brings people of other genders down. The Grade 6s managed the discussions with maturity and sensitivty.
In honour of Women’s Day and in the pursuit of equality for all, we thank the brave women in our families and communities.
