Sport

We value the role that sport plays in the holistic development of our pupils.
We strive to give each child the opportunity to develop his/her physical and sporting ability. Our pupils are expected to do one hour a week of Physical Education during school as well as an afternoon Sport.
We establish a firm foundation in the Pre-Primary years, where we focus on body mechanics and developing a love for being active. Our ultimate goal is to promote a lifelong commitment to an active and healthy lifestyle.
Our team sports on offer provide a valuable opportunity to learn new skills, interact with peers and staff outside the classroom and form friendships across different groups. Experienced and qualified staff coach our sport teams, and we compete in the local schools’ league with many of our pupils going on to represent the school at provincial trials for the various codes.
Our House events are an opportunity for pupils across all grades to collaborate and work together in a truly cohesive environment, reminding them that age is no barrier to teamwork or friendship. It promotes leadership amongst our seniors and provides an opportunity where pupils can take on more responsibility, lead and serve, should they choose to do so.

High School Sport
Here at Cannons Creek, we are committed to delivering a first-rate sports programme. We promote a culture of involvement and excellence; our staff are passionate about sport participation and all our pupils participate enthusiastically in the extra-murals offered at our school.

We offer a wide variety of sporting codes with opportunities for both team sports and individual sports throughout the year. Our fitness-focused activities like running, provide our pupils with an opportunity to reach personal fitness levels, promote general well-being and of course, serve as a much-needed stress reliever.

In our Physical Education lessons, pupils are taught the FUNdamentals of being active, running, hopping, skipping, balance, crossing their midsection, spatial awareness and core development.
For our after school programme, we offer a wide variety of sporting codes with opportunities for both team sports and individual sports throughout the year. During every sporting season, our pupils participate in at least one extra-curricular sport activity. This will involve two practices each week, and any inter-school fixtures for which they are selected.
In Summer, we offer Cricket to the boys; and Softball to the girls. Girls are also allowed to take part in Cricket instead of Softball, should they wish.
In Winter, we offer Hockey and Squash to boys and Hockey and Netball to girls. We are lucky enough to make use of the Kelvin Grove / Old Mutual Squash Courts for practices.
Our teams are coached by very well qualified and highly motivated coaches who are able to bring the best out in each and every child.
We love to see our pupils excel in sport, be it school-based or external-based sport. We have had many pupils represent Western Province and South Africa at various sport codes. These achievements are acknowledged in our weekly school newsletter and at assembly.
