We are pleased to report that some of our pupils recently participated in the IEB Techways AI Hackathon on Wednesday, 21 May 2025.
Participating teams, made up of 2-4 pupils, came together to learn about AI and develop an AI concept or solution aimed at addressing a specific societal problem from thematic areas such as youth unemployment, water-management, urbanisation, and education access. The pupils worked through various stages on the day, including discussing a problem, fleshing out an AI concept, building a prototype, and considering the ethical implications and cyber security of their solution. Our pupils demonstrated some excellent ideas and worked exceptionally well together throughout the day’s activities.
We congratulate Grade 9 pupils Kiara Puccini and Kai Jackson; and Grade 7 pupils Maria Stamatiadis, Antonios Stamatiadis, Kaylee Hendricks, and Jude Louw, on their participation in this innovative learning experience!
Hear it from Kiara Puccini:
“The 2025 IEB-Techways Hackathon was an amazing experience. I took part on my own, because my team member was absent, and created an idea called TeenHire Hub; a platform to help teenagers find safe and easy part-time jobs, freelance jobs and even internships. It was exciting to plan, design, and build something. I learned a lot about problem-solving, coding, and thinking creatively. Even though it was challenging, it was super fun and I felt really proud of what I made. I am really thankful to the teachers that assisted me. I can’t wait to maybe join another hackathon in the future!”
Hear it from Maria Stamatiadis:
“We developed an app called Expanded English Toool to help people in our community who struggle with English. It teaches useful words, gives clear examples, and makes learning simple and fun. We wanted to create something that helps everyone learn easier. The Hackathon was a great experience – we learnt a lot and enjoyed working together to solve a real problem!”
