On Tuesday, our Grade 1-3 Orff Orchestra participated in their first-ever Tygerberg International Eisteddfod. The adjudication was held here at school, where we welcomed the adjudicator, Thea Lamprecht – thank you to the many parents and grandparents who were able to join for the performance. We performed three prescribed pieces and one own choice piece, and we are ecstatic to have achieved Honours (80-89%) for all our items performed – this means that it was an excellent performance, with only one or two things to improve upon. The adjudicator’s feedback was very encouraging. We are exceptionally proud of our talented FP Orff Orchestra.
The adjudicator applauded our two Music teachers, and acknowledged that she could see they were working hard on pupils’ technique. She thanked the staff, Principal, and parents for the support given to the pupils. Ms Lamprecht was impressed that it was our first time entering, and entered four items no less. She encouraged Cannons to enter again.
She gave the following feedback:
For them to play like this, it looks so easy, and it looks so well-organized, but I know there’s a lot of hard work behind it, and a lot of repetition. Then to the main people of the day, the pupils – It was lovely to listen to you. You were so disciplined on stage. Everything went so smoothly. It was really beautiful to see. Then, from my side, I look at a lot of things simultaneously… but, in general, I saw very nice, bouncy, light, crisp movements.
‘Sakura’ – 86%. The violin of the piano really enhanced the storytelling.
‘Fruity Samba’ – 85%. Really delightful performance. It was spunky and it was lovely to listen to. The melody was carried well throughout, well done.
‘Frog Prince’ – 88%. Non-melodic elements integrated so well there and enhanced the music. It was very atmospheric, very nicely done, age-appropriate repertoire choice and execution of the item. It was well-prepared and delivered.
‘Sleep Baby Sleep’ – 84%. Multiple techniques. Really beautiful atmosphere was created, really convincingly .It sounded like a lullabye. It ended so lovely and you created a beautiful atmosphere.
“You have the right recipe here. You have nice children that work so well. Well, well trained by two brilliant teachers, supportive parents and teachers.”
