Grade 6s visit the High School

On 24 February, our Grade 6s spent some time in the High School – giving them a feel for what they can look forward to in 2027. After a fun ice-breaker with the four current Prefects, and a chat from High School Principal Mr Morton; they joined the current Grade 7s for a Natural Science lesson with Mrs Morgan. This was followed by some fun Science experiments in the Science Lab with Mrs Oliphant; joining Mrs Ingram to interact with the Grade 8s who were busy with their exciting STEAM projects; and observing the Grade 9s busy with their painting project in the Design Room, with Mrs Malan.

The Prefects shared their advice for the Grade 6s:

  • Go to all the school events. Put yourself out there.
  • Stay on track with your school work. Join as many Clubs and Societies as you can.
  • When things get overwhelming, make sure you have something to look forward to.
  • It is a time to grow friendships and meet new people. Don’t hold yourself back.

Mr Morton asked the Grade 6s what they were anxious or excited about. They were excited about having more relationships, more freedom, and more opportunities in the form of Sport options, Clubs, and Societies. The Grade 6s are both looking forward to, and anxious about the increased responsibilities; but Mr Morton reminded them that they will be ready for it. One of the biggest fears was navigating the new High School buildings and getting lost. The Prefects spoke about the difference in Cannons to their previous schools; and the changeover process. Two Prefects had been here since Pre-Primary and they felt that that crossover into High School was seamless. Mr Morton fielded a host of questions afterwards, but the Grade 6s left the High School feeling very excited!

Grade 6s – we look forward to you swapping uniform and crossing the field at the end of the year!
