Grade 1s enjoy Class in the Clouds outing

Our Grade 1 pupils enjoyed a memorable outing to the iconic Table Mountain on Friday 8 August, taking part in the Class in the Clouds educational experience. Excitement filled the air from the moment we boarded the bus, with pupils eagerly spotting Table Mountain and Lion’s Head along the way. The real thrill began in the cable car, where the pupils were amazed to discover the rotating floor. Once at the top, the classes split into two groups, each with a knowledgeable guide who shared interesting facts about the mountain’s name, its unique fynbos, sandy surface, and its vital role in supplying water to Cape Town.

A special highlight for the pupils was spotting a few dassies sunning themselves on the rocks. This was a delightful and unexpected surprise! We also learned about the history of the cable car, which started as a small wooden carriage carrying just 12 people. The Grade 1s were fascinated by a fun fact: the modern cable car has a hidden water tank that gets filled under the floor
to help keep it stable on windy days, a big improvement from the old sandbags.

It was a day filled with learning, excitement, and unforgettable views!
