We warmly welcome our new staff members to the Cannons Creek family! We are excited for their fresh perspectives and enthusiasm.

Mrs Jess Biermann – HS English Teacher
I have been an English teacher for 14 years, and I am still convinced that words can change lives. I am passionate about literature, poetry, and developing critical thinkers and confident communicators. I am the mom of two little ones and married to an Afrikaans teacher (our household is rich in opinions and red pens).
I enjoy writing, pottery and gentle adventures in nature, while trying to keep my fingers on the teenage pulse. I am excited to join the Cannons family.
Mrs Kirsty Sottocorona – Grade 7 Teacher
My husband and I have recently moved to Cape Town from Johannesburg with our 9-month old son and our two very cute puppies. When I’m not at school, I love good coffee, chocolate, trying new restaurants, and making the most of family time on weekends.
I previously taught at an all girls school where I was also a pupil. Teaching is something I truly love, and I am especially excited to be teaching Mathematics as I begin this new chapter, because change really is as good as a holiday!
I am a caring and passionate teacher who believes that school should feel like a home away from home. I aim to create a safe, nurturing space where pupils feel supported, encouraged, and confident to try, make mistakes, and grow. I am particularly excited to be at Cannons Creek because of its strong sense of community and shared values, and I can’t wait to be part of such a warm and supportive school environment.

Ms Susan Baker – HS Drama Teacher
I was born in Cape Town and raised in Johannesburg, where my teaching journey has taken me through KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape. I bring with me a deep love for theatre, playwriting, and creative expression. I have a particular interest in providing opportunities and supporting student-led initiatives such as arts and play festivals.
I am the proud mom of two sons: James (25), who lives in Stockholm, and Antony (21), who will be pursuing his Honours at UCT this year. When I’m not at the theatre, you’ll find me reading, walking, spending time with my three cats or planning my next travel adventure.
I am looking forward to settling in Cape Town, enjoying more time with family and friends, and becoming part of the school community.
Mr Lesley Roberts – HS History Teacher
After my schooling at St. John’s Christian Brothers College, I embarked on quite a journey – a National Diploma in Language Practice, working for CPUT, and a diploma in Hospitality Studies, and working as a concierge for quite a few years. After my stint in the corporate world, I belatedly answered the call of my ultimate vocation – Teaching. Subsequent to completing my degree, I have had the good fortune of teaching throughout the Intermediate, Senior and FET phases, with the majority of my professional practice focused upon History and English. After teaching at Pinelands North Primary, my wife (Shinaaz) and I, relocated to Johannesburg, where I taught Social Sciences and English, at Bishop Bavin School (now St. Luke’s College) and Trinity House Glenvista, where I also took on the role as Head of Academics for the Senior Phase. Beyond the classroom, I am an avid collector of modern boardgames and table-top role playing games. I have a great love for my subject and hope to impart an appreciation for the lessons of the past and their role in shaping our future. I look forward to contributing to the Cannons Creek community, in as many different ways as I can.

Ms Chanté Rhodes – HS CAT Teacher
I hold a B.Ed degree majoring in Mathematical Literacy and Computer Applications Technology, two subjects that I am very passionate about because they equip pupils with practical, everyday skills that are essential for their future.
Outside of the classroom, I’m a biker. The biking community has taught me a lot about brotherhood, outreach, and the importance of community. Ubuntu matters deeply to me, and I hope to bring that sense into the spaces I’m part of. I love being creative and doing crafts. I bring that same creative energy into my teaching. When I’m not working, I’m usually being kept entertained by my three cats – Loki, Shadow, and Luna.
I’m really looking forward to becoming part of the Cannons Creek family and the school spirit that it brings.
Mr Steve Nock – PS Sports Co-ordinator
I am a passionate educator with 25 years of experience in independent education, both locally and internationally.
I live in Melkbosstrand and am married to Anjulie, who runs her own music school. I have two daughters who are going into Grade 9 and 10, and are obsessed with hockey, dancing and shopping for clothes. In my spare time, I like to walk my Golden Retriever, Cody, along the beaches of Melkbos. I am also a fan of mountain biking and stand up paddling. My philosophy is grounded in care, inclusivity, and high expectations. I am committed to nurturing the whole child through excellent teaching, positive and restorative behaviour practices, and creating a fun environment in which children can thrive. I look forward to getting to know the families of the school and working together to build a warm, connected community where every child feels known, valued, and encouraged to be their best.

Mrs Chelsea Spaans – PS Pupil Counsellor
I work part-time at Cannons and when I’m not here, I am also the School Counsellor at St George’s Prep School. I am recently married and, outside of school life, I am a proud mum to two furbabies and a parrot who keeps our household lively and full of personality. In my spare time, I enjoy being part of a running club, spending time hiking outdoors, and recreating (and testing!) recipes I discover on social media.
As a Counsellor, I aim to create a warm, calm, and safe space where children feel heard, understood, and supported. I am passionate about helping pupils develop self-awareness, emotional regulation skills, confidence, and healthy relationships, while working closely with teachers and families to support each child as a whole. I am really looking forward to being part of the Cannons community and to building meaningful connections with pupils, parents, and staff as we nurture well-being and emotional growth together.
Mr Zweli Sodlala – Grade 5 Teacher
I’m commonly known as Zweli or Zwe, for those who may struggle with the pronunciation of my name. Coming from the small town of Graaff-Reinet, I have always enjoyed a simple small-town life while being curious about the rest of the world. I enjoy being active outdoors, whether it be hiking, running or taking long walks into the rough to look for my golf ball. I am a passionate sports coach, specifically rugby, cricket and athletics with experience working at various schools in Graaff-Reinet, overseas, Gqeberha, and more recently as a teaching intern at a school in Rondebosch. I look forward to meeting everyone and being part of the Cannons Creek community.

Ms Phozisa Fanti – PPS Assistant & Aftercare
I was born and raised in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. I have been working in Early Childhood Development centre since 2011 as a Teacher’s Assistant, gaining valuable experience in supporting young pupils. I have a strong interest in child development and in creating inclusive learning environments where every child feels seen and supported. I am currently studying towards a BEd degree in Foundation Phase at STADIO. My love for teaching was nurtured from a young age, inspired by my mother who was a Pre-School teacher.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and love cooking. I am excited to be joining Cannons Creek – I look forward to building meaningful relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
Ms Emily Jenkins – PS Sports Co-ordinator
I am a sports fanatic with a love for including everyone of all levels to achieve the same goal – to enjoy movement. I grew up in a sporty family, the kind that moved for longevity (and some medals). I achieved my certificate for Personal Training where I found my love for coaching. From there, I moved into a Bachelors of Education for Intermediate Phase while coaching various sports at various schools, and Personal Training at Virgin Active. I have been lucky enough to come back to Cannons Creek for some odd jobs in and out the classroom over the years – some might even remember me from 2021 as Coach Emily!
I am over the moon to be back at Cannons Creek and looking forward to creating awesome memories with my team!
