Parents join for IT lessons

Last week, our Grade 4-6s opened their Computer lessons up to their parents to come visit and see how their lessons had been integrated with their IBL.

The Grade 4s got to show their parents how they had used coding to turn their Micro:bits into livestock counting devices. After adding a few finishing touches to their code, they then took their parents around the school to test out their code by counting various objects. Who knew we had so many doors and stairs!

The Grade 5s showed their parents how they had used code to turn their Sphero Bolts into compasses and had their parents test out their Bear Island directional instructions. They then made any edits necessary to their Google Doc and Inkarnate map. At the end of the lesson some of the parents were brave enough to take on the challenge of attempting the coding task the children had been completing in class as well as showing off some of their typing skills from “way back when…”.

The Grade 6s had the opportunity to show their parents the progress they had made on their circuit projects and how they had used Scratch code to create their own circuit simulations. Those who had completed their projects had the time to show off their coding for the Sphero Bolts and how they had turned their Sphero’s into Rock Paper Scissors contenders.
