Cannons Creek Independent School gleefully enjoyed a day without rain, to celebrate the opening of the 2024 Olympic Games on Friday 26 July. The day began with the majority of the school’s pupils and staff forming human Olympic Rings. This was followed by the High School’s Head Prefect, and a Grade R pupil carrying the ‘Olympic torch’ and ceremoniously lighting it to great cheers from the whole school. The Sports Department organised mini-Olympics activities which emulated the real sports, for each Primary School phase and the Pre-Primary pupils also enjoyed participating in their own themed fun activities. Pupils learnt about the Games itself, from both historical and modern times, as well as about the different participating countries. The day ended with the ‘Olympic Torch’ being passed around to each pupil in the Primary School.
