The Grade 6s have embarked on an exciting learning journey during IBL this term, and recently they were eager to learn about Christian Barnard and the world’s first heart transplant. Our big question this term is, “ How does population growth impact the study of Medicine and Science? ” The visit to The Heart Museum proved to be a valuable learning experience for our Grade 6s. We look forward to learning about new and exciting medical developments over the next few weeks.
What did you find most interesting about your visit to the museum?
“I found it very interesting to see how they remade all the “scenes” of the heart transplant with realistic plastic mannequins. It was also interesting to see how they performed a transplant and to stand in the rooms where this transplant was really done. It was by far the best outing I have ever been on.” – Melle Zuidgeest |
“I found the information interesting, even if I felt squeamish. The videos that we were shown were also fascinating. The wax models of people were so lifelike that they creeped me out. It was a very good outing.” – Freddie le Roux |
“What was interesting for me was they did heart transplants on dogs.” – Conor Farquharson |
