Our Grade 3s have been learning all about natural disasters in class, and we decided to take their knowledge to the screen in Digital Literacy. They studied what a real live news broadcast looks like and then wrote their very own scripts to report on a disaster.
Next came the fun part, we recorded their reports in front of a green screen and used Canva to edit the videos. The Grade 3s learned how to digitally remove the green background and replace it with dramatic footage of their specific natural disaster. They also learned how to layer in realistic sound effects and add professional news elements like a “Breaking News” flash, a station logo, and a headline bar at the bottom. The final videos turned out great, and the pupils walked away with some fantastic basic video editing skills! See their work here.
