During the last week of Term 2, the Cannons Creek Independent High School U19 Boys’ Hockey Team and U19 Netball Teams embarked on a three-day trip to Hermanus with the primary objective of making up for match time missed in the short term.
A Festival hosted by Curro Hermanus was on the itinerary for the first day. The teams faced off against Curro Langebaan, Curro Hermanus and HS Overberg. All the matches were played with a competitive spirit and the Cannons teams walked away from the festival with valuable experience. Additionally, the Boys’ Hockey team had two more fixtures against Hermanus Hockey Club and Hermanus HS, while the Netball Team played their final fixture against Hermanus HS on Thursday. Despite the toughness of the games, the Cannons Team displayed unwavering determination and gave their all until the final whistle, showcasing exceptional fitness levels.
“During the tour we learned a lot about ourselves as a team and had some very memorable moments. This was a really fantastic experience!” – Hannah Kline (Grade 12)
“This trip presented challenges for both teams, as they consistently competed against opponents of a higher calibre. However, what truly stood out was the passion, competitiveness and determination displayed by our pupils throughout this experience. During leisure time, teams enjoyed exploring Hermanus and local eateries, making the most of the favourable weather. I am proud of both teams for their outstanding efforts during this trip. They have not only represented our school admirably, but have gained experience that will undoubtedly contribute to their growth as an athlete.” – Mrs Skea, Head of Sport
