Cannons Creek Independent High School, in partnership with Young Hearts Big Dreams (YHBD), packaged over 2000 hotdogs during a charity event held at the school on Saturday 18 October 2025. The school’s Interact Society and Muslim Students’ Association (MSA) teamed up with YHBD, a teen-led charity that focuses on helping those in need. Around 60 Cannons Creek pupils (including three Grade 5 pupils) arrived to assist, and the hotdogs were distributed to those less fortunate in areas such as Parkwood, Woodstock and Hanover Park.
YHBD was co-founded by Yasmin Vallie, Yumna Vallie, Yusra Banderker, and Qaylah Omar (the latter two being Cannons Creek pupils in Grade 10 and Grade 9 respectively). “Our recent charity event was a huge success and really showed how caring and united our school is. It was incredible to see everyone working so hard and giving their time to help others. The event showed how much we can achieve when we all come together for a good cause,” said Qaylah Omar (Cannons Creek Grade 9 pupil, Head of MSA, and Co-founder of YHBD).
“The Hotdog event was a tremendous success. It marked our first collaboration with two societies and an external organisation – the opportunity to lead and participate in this initiative was truly inspiring. The presence of three Primary School pupils added a special touch to it. Our involvement exemplifies a passionate commitment to community development and the advocacy of basic human rights. This experience stands as a powerful highlight for me and reinforces my pride in heading the Interact programme for 2025,” said Amarachi Zondi (Cannons Creek Grade 11 pupil, and Head of Interact Society).
