On Friday 20 September, Cannons Creek High School held its Certificate Awards Assembly and hosted Bianca Edwards (Director of Ace Models Durbanville) as the Guest Speaker. This ceremony acknowledges achievers in the Music, Visual Arts, Design, Drama, Clubs/Societies, and Sport realms.
Edwards spoke to the audience about how she genuinely enjoys witnessing people’s journeys of growth, and that modelling isn’t just about fashion, glamour, and striking poses – it’s also about unwavering dedication, unrelenting hard work, and a fierce determination to succeed. Edwards enlightened parents, pupils, and staff, that the number one rule of life is to stand up straight with shoulders back. She emphasised that confidence is key in succeeding in life, and that people need to be mindful of three pillars – discipline, sacrifice and obedience. She added that life is not about finding yourself, it’s about creating yourself and outlined three steps to achieve this – visualisation, documentation, and accountability. Edwards led a powerful visualisation exercise with all present – with prompts such as think what you would be in 10-15 years’ time, what would your goals be, what would you look like, what part of the world would you be in. She pointed out that no one fully knows themselves since everyone is constantly evolving, but it is important to visualise. She encouraged the audience to set small consistent goals, to trust themselves, and to set boundaries. She ended her inspirational speech with the power question: “It starts and ends with you – what are you doing about it?”
“Culture is more than artistic pursuits; it is the collective embodiment of a community. It is made up of stories, art, dance, music, journeys, food, language, and values. Shared experiences bond us together and create memories that endure long after the moment has passed. Cannons Creek offers a unique range of cultural activities, providing a space for incredible experiences and lasting memories to be created. The Cultural Certificate Awards recognise those pupils who seize every opportunity in this sphere and contribute to the cultural fabric of Cannons Creek.” – Ms Harvey, Head of Culture.
