On Wednesday 19 August, our Grade 1-3 Orff ensemble groups participated in the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod. The adjudication was held at school, where we welcomed the adjudicator Ms Bardene Bell, and the Chairperson of the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod Mr Francois Lubbe. We are ecstatic to have achieved the following results: Grade 1 – ‘Jelly on a Plate’ (88%), Grade 2 – ‘Catch a falling star’ (89%), and Grade 3 – ‘Flintstones theme’ (90%).
Thank you to our dedicated Orff teachers, Ms Levitt and Mrs Gopal – without you laying the foundations at this level we wouldn’t have been able to perform so well at events such as the Marimba World Championships! Ms Levitt thanked the parents in attendance, and thanked them for investing the time and money into this extramural.

Grade 1:
The character of the piece was well grasped and performed. The wobbly jelly grasped the character of the piece. Beautiful ensemble playing there. You performed with rhythmical discipline and listen very well to another. You listen well to one another and as very young players… I can’t believe that you’re only Grade 1, the first group. You impressed us really, and I want to say as young players you excelled today, and always let the music play on. Never stop. Even you’re still very young, you can carry on forever. You impressed us, thank you. 88%.
Grade 2:
Just as lovely. It was a very good performance. Lovely singing with the instruments. I enjoyed that very much. The singing is so good to to incorporate with the with the playing. The syncopation bassline was well performed. It was syncopation all the time but you kept it up so well. You enjoyed doing this well-known song, I could see that. Never stop making music. It a pleasure to listen to you. Grade 2s, you got 89%.
Grade 3:
That was… wow. It was a polished performance, I feel. And the ABA form you kept up very well. You grasped it well. The contrasting parts, you could immediately hear there was a contrasting part. A part, the same. B, the next part, the next tune, and then back to A, uh, B part at the end, and the ‘wow’ you ended. Very well done, the ABA form well grasped. And then a it was a vibrant performance all over… all the way. Vibrant and a with rhythmical vitality. Performed with rhythmical vitality and energy. Excellent. And 90%.
