Cannons dominates at Zonal Athletics

This time last week, we competed in the Zonal Athletics event on Wednesday 16 February at Greenpoint stadium. Nineteen pupils were entered across the various events.
Head of Boys’ Sport, Mr Keith Ingram said “The athletes proved to themselves and others that they deserved to be there. They upheld the Cannons name with pride in their behaviour, dress code and on track performances.” Out of 11 schools, Cannons Creek finished in 7th place. Head of Girls’ Sport, Mrs Ju-Anita Skea commented, “This was a fantastic achievement when most of the other schools had between 50 and 100 athletes.”
Of the 19 athletes, 12 qualified for the second round of trials which took place on Saturday 19 February. They were:

  • Anthony Allen – 800m
  • Benjamin Risk – 200m and Long Jump
  • Sophia Stamatiadis – 200m
  • Rebecca White – 1500m and 800m
