Lukah Ajam, Grade 8 pupil at Cannons Creek School, recently competed in the Western Province Figure Skating Championships, on 9 and 10 March 2021.
He competed in the Pre-Novice Boys section and he placed first for his component programme and second for his free programme. Medals will be awarded at a later stage, dependent on COVID-19 regulations. This was the first competition since the Covid-19 pandemic hit our shores a year ago and took place without spectators and medal ceremony. Lukah’s coach, Tiana Stanton, said she is very proud of his improvement and the hard work he puts into his sport.
This is a prestigious event, and participation is necessary to be in line for selections for skaters to qualify for the National Championships, and to gain ranking to potentially represent South Africa at overseas competitions where qualified.
