CC Mandela Day (9)

Cannons Creek Primary supports Mandela Day

Cannons Creek Independent Primary School began the term by celebrating Mandela Week, with every grade giving of their time and talents to make a positive difference in the lives of others. We have so much to be thankful for and are constantly reminded of the importance of looking beyond ourselves to support those who are less fortunate, particularly children in under-resourced schools.
*The Pre-Primary pupils made sandwiches as a way to give back to the community, which were dispersed through the Callas Foundation.
*The Grade 1-3 pupils made sandwiches which were distributed to Dryden Street Primary. This was a special initiative as our one student Ms Taania Toefy was previously a Teacher’s Aid at this school.
*The Grade 4s decorated biscuits with icing sugar and sprinkles, which were delivered (along with heartfelt cards) to the Village Tods Educare Centre.
*The Grade 5s picked up litter in their special spot – Poplar Park, and along the Canal.
*The Grade 6s created 101 soup jars to donate to the Callas Foundation. Pupils collected and brought in empty glass jars, which they carefully filled with layers of wholesome ingredients like lentils, beans, legumes, stock cubes, and pasta – creating colourful, nutritious meal packs ready to be shared with families in need.

“While Mandela Week shines a spotlight on serving others, kindness, generosity and compassion are values we strive to instil in our children every day through the many outreach projects we support throughout the year,” said Mrs Tracy Wahl (Primary School Principal).
