Cannons Creek Independent Primary School performed their production, ‘The Adventures of Charlie Bucket’ on 17-19 September. The very popular ‘Charlie and The Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl book was adapted by Mrs Terri Theys (Primary School Drama Teacher and Director), with musical arrangement by Ms Gail Levitt (Primary School Music Teacher). The story followed a poor young boy, Charlie Bucket, who finds a golden ticket to visit the world-famous Chocolate Factory of Willy Wonka; and it featured all Grade 1-6 pupils. This production was “the perfect choice is that it is a classic and resonates with audiences of all ages.” – Theys. Theys added, ” Charlie Bucket’s journey reminds us all of the importance of hope, kindness, and imagination. In a world full of distractions, this timeless story offers a moment to dream big and believe in the impossible.” Incorporated into the production was singing, dancing, acting, choral work and poetry. The full Dress Rehearsal on Monday 16 September was attended by the Pre-Primary School pupils and residents from local retirement homes – Pinelands Place, Helen Keller Society, Brown & Annie Lawrence Home, and Pinewood Village.
Some comments:
- “The residents who were able to attend the concert applaud you all and say a heartfelt “thank you”. Thanks too to the scholars who welcomed us with beverages and took such good care of us. It was wonderful to realize that all learners (Grades 1-6) were included in dancing, singing and acting parts or choral voice. The colourful costumes and boldly designed sets added to the drama.” – Ms Kay Coetzee, Brown & Annie Lawrence Home Residents’ Committee Chair.
