On Thursday 16 October, Cannons Creek Independent School held its Matric Valedictory Awards Ceremony, celebrating the culmination of 12 years of schooling. The Matrics were wished success for their final examinations, but also their future endeavours. Mr Morton (High School Principal) thanked this Matric group for their commitment to school in ints entirety, to show up amidst the busyness, stress, academic deadlines and other commitments. He pointed out that it was a bittersweet occasion and congratulated the Matrics on reaching this life, and educational milestone. He encouraged the Matrics to be excited about the possibilities ahead of them, reminding them that they are confident, ready, and equipped for the next step. Jeremiah 17:5-8 was the Bible verse referenced – reminding us that true strength somes from trusting in God, that he has a perfect plan for us. Two musical items were performed by Matric pupils Molly de Witt and Michael Sparks.
As is tradition, the audience was treated to a special video showing the Matrics’ journey, which sparked laughter and tears; and the two Head Prefects honoured each Matriculant in an address whilst the parents and staff were also thanked. Families that have been with the School since Pre-Primary, were given a special token of appreciation; and the Matrics unveiled their gift to the school – a Bass Drum. As is tradition, the Matrics exited through a Guard of Honour formed by the Grade 11s.
Of special significance was the incredible 24 Matrics who achieved Academic Colours and Honours – more than half the Matric group.
